ASTM D665B is an industry-recognized laboratory test that is designed to test the ability of an oil to
protect engine parts against rust and corrosion. Oils that failed this test showed pitting and corrosion
that could lead to accelerated wear and premature/ expensive repair costs.

FTM3462 is a laboratory test that determines the deposit-forming tendency of a lubricant. The lubricant
is intermittently splashed against a heated metal plate, and the thermal and oxidative stresses cause
lubricant degradation which can result in the formation of deposits. The weight of those deposits is then
measured. Low deposit formation results in better engine performance and extended life for engine parts.

The Oxidative Onset Temperature (OOT) test determines the temperature at which an oil first begins
to oxidize or “break down.” A small sample of the oil (a drop) is placed on a small platinum pan. The oil
is placed in a piece of temperature controlled lab equipment1 in the presence of air. The temperature in
the lab equipment is raised slowly over time. When the oil sample begins to oxidize (break down) the
temperature is noted. This is the OOT. The higher the oil's OOT, the more resistant it is to oxidation.
